My name is Marianne Bailey and I am your Senior Tutor.
I am a geek but not the type of geek who builds computers or writes programs or code websites. I have friends who do that stuff so I don’t need to.
I am an “end user geek.” That means that I like the technology after someone else designs and builds it. I’m a “gadget geek.” I love laptops, tablets, smartphones, iPhones, iPads and “wearable technology” such as smartwatches.
I have been an avid computer user since I was in sixth grade, 33 years ago. I was born in Kettering, Ohio and moved to Florida in 1973. I started out by taking lessons on the original Apple computers at a junior high school in Jacksonville, FL. I came home one day and told my mother and grandmother that I wanted an Apple. “Did you hear that mother? Now she wants an Apple!” My grandmother, bless her soul, pondered this for a minute then said “I don’t have any Apples but I can make her a peanut butter and jelly sandwich”. Some things you just never forget.
I continually progressed in the computer world after that. My first real computer job was a rep and trainer for Hewlett Packard. I went to HP dealers teaching their personnel about the new products. I often found myself in the stores on the weekends helping their customers decide what product best matched their needs. That is when my love for teaching people about computers began.
Since then, I have spent a lot of time teaching senior citizens how to use their computers. That evolved to include newer technology such as tablets and smartphones.
We want to help Senior Citizens learn how to use technology to improve their lives.
